Residence advancement scammer busted in Centre County

CENTRE COUNTY, Pa (WTAJ) — A Centre County guy is at the rear of bars after law enforcement say he cheated a person out of $3,000.

Police arrested Edward Gardner Jr, 38, of Ginter, Pa, for a house improvement fraud that took place in October 2022.

On Nov. 15 about a reported theft. Law enforcement acquired that Gardner Jr. was hired to do concrete operate at a person’s dwelling. Gardner reportedly received a $2,500 check out and $500 in hard cash on Oct. 7, according to the rates.

Five days later, the property owner claimed Gardner Jr. informed him he prepared to have the operate performed by “weeks finish.” Right after no operate was done, on Oct. 24, the homeowner despatched a text to Gardner Jr., asking when the do the job was likely to be finished.

The house owner claimed Gardner Jr. did not respond to his texts.

On Oct. 31, the house owner sent Gardner a certified letter asking for a refund, according to the criminal criticism. Gardner Jr. did not reply to the letter or additional texts from the home owner.

Officers tried to get in touch with Gardner Jr. three instances about a two-week time period at the finish of November but had no accomplishment in reaching him, according to the charges. Police also frequented the dwelling to confirm that function was not concluded.

Gardner Jr. is at this time in the Centre County Prison facing a few felonies which include getting payments for services and falling to perform and theft by deception.
